There are about thirty castles, chateaux and manor houses alone here. Medieval residential towers, castles, Renaissance manors and Baroque palaces can be found here. This is why the area was dubbed the \"Silesian Elysium\" at the beginning of the 19th century, comparing it to some extent to the castles and chateaux of the Loire Valley in France.<br><br>\nDuring the Romantic period, the Jeleniog\u00f3rska Valley was a well-known tourist and spa destination throughout Europe. The finest European families established their residences here. The whole area is covered by a dense network of roads, often with valuable views. The valley is ideal for cycling and car trips. The foundation was set up by the owners of several palaces seeking funds to save the monuments and to promote the area. The foundation has also contributed to the creation of a cultural park and is currently working to have the area inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
